Gilded Petunia Pottery

3415 Kelsey Road, Denman Island

Gilded Petunia Pottery’s turquoise studio, with picturesque views of Baynes Sound, is where potter Jeanie Rogers molds her magic. It took seven years to build and develop the space, a project which is always morphing to fit the growing desires of Jeanie’s creativity.

Mainly self-taught through workshops, apprenticing, and a semester at North Island College, Jeanie says she is always experimenting. “I like to try new things. I’m constantly exploring and trying to have some fun with it.”

Jeanie creates decorative and functional earthenware, lustreware, and wood fired pots in an eclectic mix of styles, colours, textures. Pots that line the walls of her studio feature an abundance of vibrant turquoise, a colour she loves, and in 2024 she will be expanding her repertoire to include new glazes like a milky opalescent.

Additionally, Jeanie is delving into some sculpture, tile making and small murals inspired by the forest and natural world around her. “Patterns and chaos on the forest floor or light peaking through the trees, all provide ideas to explore.”

Gilded Petunia Pottery is available during the Pottery Tour and often at the Denman Christmas Craft Fair, or by appointment throughout the year. The studio is a short walk from the Denman West Ferry at the end of Kelsey Road.
